How to Create a Cozy Reading Nook in Any Space
A reading nook doesn’t require a dedicated room. It requires a chair, good lighting, and intention. Here’s how to create one anywhere.
The Essential Elements
The Chair
An armchair with wide arms (for resting a book) or an oversized accent chair works best. Comfortable reading chairs.
The Light
A floor lamp positioned directly behind and to the side of the chair. Warm-toned bulb (2700K) is easier on the eyes. Reading floor lamps.
A Side Table
Somewhere to put your tea. Non-negotiable. Small side tables.
Cozy Additions
- A throw blanket draped over the arm
- A small pouf or footstool (poufs)
- Books within reach
- A candle or diffuser nearby
Finding the Space
A reading nook fits in: an unused living room corner, a bedroom corner, a bay window with a cushion, or even a large closet with the door removed. A small rug under the chair, slightly angled from the main seating, creates the separation that makes it feel like its own space.
